Together – towards the prosperity of the region: a briefing by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan

Uzbekistan is developing a new Regional Program for the Rational Use of Water Resources in Central Asia. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan Akmaljon Kuchkarov announced it at a briefing dedicated to the address of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Oliy Majlis, as well as the achievements of Uzbekistan in 2019.
The regional program will open a new stage in the cooperation of Central Asian countries on the joint use of transboundary water resources and will allow to implement jointly the water and energy projects as well as to adopt new legal documents on the use of the water resources of the rivers of Syrdarya and Amudarya.
- From year to year in the region, there is a shortage of water resources due to the climate change, melting glaciers. This program is aimed to consolidate efforts in tackling common issues related to water resources, and to strengthen regional cooperation in this area. Without the participation of all countries, we will not be able to achieve our goals. In this context, Turkmenistan is of important role, the diplomat said.
As reported, in 2020, it is planned to introduce water-saving technologies on almost 44 thousand hectares in Uzbekistan. It is 4 times more than last year.
In addition, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan invited representatives of Turkmenistan to participate at the Tashkent International Investment Forum, which is scheduled for March 5-6, 2020. The first ever investment forum in the modern history of Uzbekistan will be held under the motto “Implementing a new growth program” and will bring together more than a thousand delegates from different countries, business, scientific and academic communities all around the world. Participants of the event will be able to familiarize themselves with the conditions and benefits of doing business in Uzbekistan, and will receive specific proposals for mutually beneficial investment projects. In 2020, the amount of fixed investments is projected to reach $ 23 billion in Uzbekistan.
