A Better Future for All: SDG Kids Festival Held in Mary


On the eve of the World Children's Day, which is celebrated on November 20, in Mary, a children's festival was held under the auspices of the UN mission in Turkmenistan, which the organizers dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The participants of the festival, which was held on the basis of one of the city schools, learned what the SDGs are and why it is so important, how the Convention on the Rights of the Child works, and also took part in various interactive games that reveal the essence and basic concepts of the global 2030 Agenda.
Interacting in a team, the guys shared their dreams about the future. “When I grow up, I will become a drawing teacher,” eight-year-old Nastya confidently said, participating in the game “My Winged Goals.” “And I want to build skyscrapers,” Zaman told his peers.
The festival was moderated by young SDG ambassadors who were trained under the guidance of experts from the international organization Six Seconds, which effectively facilitates the integration of academic and social-emotional learning in schools around the world.
“As young leaders promoting global goals, we are trying to give young children the opportunity to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs,” said the young ambassador of the SDGs, Azat Handurdyev, a student at the Institute of Engineering and Transport Communications of Turkmenistan.
As part of the global project “The Biggest Lesson in the World”, implemented in partnership with the UN Children's Fund and aimed at involving youth in support of the SDGs, an open lesson was held during the Mary festival for children, where the students themselves acted as teachers. They tried to inspire other guys to the actions that make up a better world for a common future.
