Turkmenistan presented its first Voluntary National Review on the SDGs


At the high-level Political forum at the UN headquarters in New York, Turkmenistan presented to the world community the first Voluntary national review on the implementation of the SDGs as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council. Speaking at the high-level meeting, chaired by the ECOSOC President, the Turkmen delegation acquainted Forum participants with the principal directions of socio-economic development of the country, achievements in implementation of the main national programs, geared towards the SDGs implementation. The speech was accompanied by a video presentation, which visually showed delegates the main indicators, achieved at the national level, initiatives and proposals of Turkmenistan, aimed at ensuring sustainable development at the regional and international levels. Special emphasis was placed on such priority areas of domestic and foreign policy as transport, energy and environment.
A young Ambassador of the SDGs made a speech according to the results of main presentation. The representative of Turkmenistan’s youth was chosen on the UN part to address the high-level Forum on behalf of the younger generation. The Chairman and participants of the meeting highly appreciated the efforts of Turkmenistan to involve young people in the implementation of an Agenda till 2030, particularly emphasizing that the country’s policy in this direction can serve as a model of successful consolidation of all segments of society around the SDGs implementation.
The VNR distinctive feature of Turkmenistan is the application of an innovative approach, expressed in the analysis of correlation of global objectives and indicators.
Upon completion of main reports, it was held an interactive dialogue, during which delegates of the UN member countries had the opportunity to ask questions to the representatives of Turkmenistan and comment on the speeches.
