Online taxi order service Uber announced the creation of the Center for Advanced Technology in Paris, which will develop a project for the service of flying taxis. This will be the company's first research center located outside of North America. The company plans to invest 20 million euros for five years to develop the project, which was named Uber Elevate. It includes research into artificial intelligence algorithms and air traffic management systems, which are necessary to support the work of a full-fledged air taxi service. Uber also signed a cooperation agreement with the famous French Polytechnic School (École Politechnique). - Given the central role of France in the world of aviation, this country is an ideal place for the development of Uber Elevate and other new technology projects of the company - said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. The opening of the new Center is scheduled for autumn. According to the newly appointed head of the Uber Elevate Eric Ellison, their laboratory is engaged in transport modeling, simulation air traffic control, the integration of innovative solutions for air transport, as well as the study of communications networks. In addition, the company will work with the Space Agency and the US Federal Aviation Administration to develop air traffic regulations.
