On May 23, the 9th International Gas Congress of Turkmenistan, which gathered about 400 delegates from more than 30 countries, began in Avaza. One of the key topics of the representative forum is the diversification of the structure of Turkmenistan’s energy exports. Today the country has reoriented to form a powerful base of the processing industry, as evidenced by the list of new projects, information about which was voiced during the sessions of the congress. Among them, new gas processing complexes, chemical plants and other industrial facilities, construction of which is aimed at expanding the list of products produced by the country’s fuel and energy complex. At the same time, Turkmenistan does not refuse to implement new projects in the supply of raw materials, including natural gas, which remains one of the main export products for the country. Having regard to the huge demand, and in some cases even the vital need for “blue fuel” in some states, Turkmenistan aims to maximize the geography of suply pipelines that can strengthen the global energy security and stabilize the socio-economic situation in its and surrounding regions. For this, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline (TAPI) is being implemented, which has long been at the center of attention of the world community as the most important factor in stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan. Another important direction is the possibility of Turkmenistan’s participation in the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project, which provides for the export of natural gas from Azerbaijan to the European Union countries via Georgia and Turkey. Myrat Archayev, Chairman of “Turkmengaz” State Corporation, in his speech at the Congress emphasized that the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project, which will allow Turkmen “blue fuel” to reach Europe via Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) pipelines, is still on the agenda. As Mustafa Kapuju, Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan, said in an interview for ORIENT, the TANAP project is very important for strengthening the energy security of Europe and all the countries on territory of which the pipeline will be laid are interested in Turkmenistan as a participant of the SGC project. We hope very much that Turkmenistan to participate in the TANAP project, as Turkmenistan plays a key energy role in the region, Mr. Kapuju said. Therefore, everyone is waiting for the signing of the Caspian Sea Convention and determining the status of the Caspian Sea. The ability to build a pipeline from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan along the bottom of the Caspian Sea and supply Turkmen gas to Europe through TANAP will increase the profitability of the project.
