“You are forever responsible for those who tamed”…these words from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's fairy tale “The Little Prince” best characterize the activity of MaxoMagic Central Asian Shepherd Kennel (NY, USA), engaged in the breeding of Central Asian sheep-dogs. The company was established in 1999. One of its co-founders was Stephen Nash, well-known IN USA and abroad cynologist and judge with almost half a century experience. During the last five years his son Daniel Nash, who also has a solid practice of working with herding breeds, runs the enterprise. The first thoroughbred Central Asian shepherd dogs, in fact the founders of the new sphere of kennel’s activity, were acquired in 2004. “One of our imports, Mishka, was bred by Turkmen Alabai breeder, T.A. Khabibullin. He was bred in Russia I believe”, Daniel told in an e-mail with correspondent of Orient. “One of our imports, Al Amir's Hammer is from Uzbekistan. One of our foundation dogs, Royal Gift of Asia, Nik Han, was originally from Kazakhstan”, he added. Currently, the MaxoMagic kennel maintains 20 dogs. “Some are older and retired but they are like family so they will live out their lives here”, Dan says. It is noteworthy, that for MaxoMagic, the upbringing of dogs and subsequent sale mean more just a business. The caring attitude and focus on the health, temperament and behavior of puppy are in high priority. A potential client undergoes much possible evaluation for availability of conditions for dog’s maintenance. And even after transfer to the future owners, the employees continue to monitor the life of the puppy, sometimes contacting with the new family and visiting their homes. In addition, the kennel is concentrated around the socialization of dogs in order to demonstrate the canine community the versatility of the Central Asian breed. Today MaxoMagic guard dogs protect livestock from predators on ranches and farms in Oklahoma, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. In addition to natural mission, thanks to the kennel and innate patience, five Central Asians have found a new profession – these dogs are used as therapeutic one, visiting the nursing homes and caring for people with such mental illness as Autism, bipolar disorder, Asperger syndrome. At various times, Central Asian shepherds from MaxoMagic kennel became recipients of prestigious awards in the contests and shows, hosted by UKC, ARBA, NAKC and other clubs. The team of MaxoMagic Central Asian Shepherds Kennel is also included in the continuous process of self-education, exchange of experience with breeders and cynologists, as well as providing professional assistance to those who decided to join this painstaking and responsible breeding work. It is no exaggeration to say that Central Asian shepherd dog is an invaluable gift of this part of Asia to the whole world. Wherever these dogs find themselves, they prove their courage, stamina, dedication, intelligence and endless devotion for people. The Turkmen people regard the Alabai with special reverence, considering them reliable companions of the shepherds, indispensable helpers in home and faithful friends. The story of this friendship verified by millenniums. This is evidenced by the remains of wolfhounds, discovered during the excavations in the southwestern part of Turkmenistan in the territory of the settlement of Altyndepe, dating back 2dn millennium BC (bronze age). The delft figurine of Alabai was found also at the site of the medieval city of Dandanakan in southern Mary province.
