The International Francophonie Day is celebrated everywhere in the world every year on March 20th, which is a way not only to promote the French language, but also to promote cultural diversity, education, a friendly environment as well as to unite the millions of French-speakers. On that special day, the French Embassy together with the French Institute in Turkmenistan organize a series of creative competitions among young people and children learning French. This year all competitions will be devoted to the work of the famous French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century Jean de La Fontaine, the first fable of which was printed 350 years ago. Adult participants can compete in the essay competition and write their own fable or try their creativeness in staging a theatrical performance based on La Fontaine, while children are suggested to illustrate his stories. The preselection of participants who will go to the finals and compete for the main prize – a trip to France – will be on March 24. Winners of the drawings contest also receive special gifts from the organizers. The results will be announced at the “Francophonie Evening”, which will be held in the Ashgabat concert hall “Vatan” on March 31.
