Azerbaijan to "double" its presence in space, while the second Turkmen satellite – on the way


The launch of second Azerbaijan's geostationary satellite Azerspace-2/Intelsat-38 is scheduled for this April 30.
The satellite will be launched from the Kourou, French Guiana, space center using the Ariane 5 ECA launch vehicle. In addition, India’s GSAT-11 satellite will be joined.
The zone of its service will include the countries of Europe, Central and South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Preparations for the launch of the second space communications satellite are underway In Turkmenistan. The first satellite of Turkmenistan – TürkmenÄlem 52°E – was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, US, in 2015 aboard a Falcon-9 rocket.
The second Turkmen communication satellite is designed to complete the capabilities of the first by providing to specialists remote sounding data, which can be used in the fuel and energy sector, agriculture, the environment and other areas.
Turkmenistan intends to invest in the space sphere 1 billion 300 million manat (more than 370 million US dollars) within next few years.
Recently, the level of economic and technological development of the states of the Caspian and Central Asian regions allows talking the effective joined cooperation in the exploration of outer space.
As previously reported by ORIENT, the issue of creating a Regional Center for Space Research is being discussed currently in the scientific circles of the countries of Central Asia.
The implementation of this project will give access for all countries of the region to innovative researches related to space and communications.
