Turkmenistan and Russia will jointly fight the drug threat
Turkmenistan and Russian Federation will assist each other in countering one of the most terrible challenges of our time - drug addiction. The agreement on partnership of the two states in this sphere came into force on February 24th.
The document was signed last October by Presidents Berdimuhamedov and Putin during the visit of the Russian leader to Ashgabat.
The document provides for a partnership between the two countries in the exchange of information about people and organizations suspected of involvement in illicit drug trafficking. States will cooperate in carrying out actions aimed at preventing, detecting and suppressing unlawful acts related to drugs.
Finally, the states will share the experience of those responsible for countering drug trafficking structures, and also help each other in training highly qualified staff for relevant departments.
The drug threat is a serious problem for almost all countries of the world. And it should be noted that Turkmenistan has achieved significant success in this area. The country declared an uncompromising struggle with this evil in all directions, and this has yielded results.
In Turkmenistan, a person who has committed a crime still has a chance to return to an honest life. If the stumbled sincerely repents and is ready to atone for his guilt with honest labor, the Turkmen state gives him such an opportunity, holding several pawns of pardons several times a year. At the same time, the state warns everyone that people who commit crimes related to drugs can not count on such humanistic acts. In Turkmenistan, at legislative level it is forbidden to apply pardons to those who distributed or somehow contributed to the spread of drugs.
And, of course, awareness raising work is of great importance here. Thanks to a set of awareness raising measures where the elders play a leading role, the country has created an atmosphere of intolerance towards drug addiction and illicit trafficking of narcotic substances.
Also, an important role in the fight against drug addiction is played by shares of public burning of narcotic drugs seized during special operations of the security agencies of Turkmenistan.
In a word, Turkmenistan has something to offer its partners in the joint struggle against the narcotic threat.
