Herat, the center of the border province with Turkmenistan, continues intensive preparations for the launch of construction works of 774-kilometer lengthy Afghan segment of the gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI). Extra security measures have been introduced in the city. On the eve of the upcoming celebration and the arrival of delegations from the TAPI member-countries, roads are being repaired and park areas decorated. The residents of Herat look forward with great enthusiasm to the launch of the gas pipeline project, expressing the hope that the mega-project will contribute to improving the socio-economic situation of the population through the creation of a large number of new jobs. Recall that in Afghanistan, the TAPI gas corridor will cross the provinces of Herat, Farah, Helmand and Kandahar. In the course of several meetings held at the end of last and beginning of this year in all these regions, government officials, tribal elders, prominent religious figures have repeatedly confirmed readiness for the support of the TAPI project and consolidation of efforts to ensure the security of the future pipeline.
