5th International Theater Festival Opens in Ashgabat

The 5th International Theater Festival has opened in Ashgabat, bringing together creative delegations, stage professionals, and experts from Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, and Turkmenistan. The cultural forum began with a festive procession of theater troupes in the square in front of the Main Academic Drama Theater of Turkmenistan.

The official portion of the program commenced with a welcoming address from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the festival’s participants and guests. The head of state emphasized that regular professional exchanges between theaters from friendly nations have become an integral part of cultural diplomacy, playing a key role in strengthening international humanitarian dialogue and the mutual enrichment of cultures.

The celebratory program continued with performances by the visiting delegations and a video presentation of the productions featured in the festival’s lineup. Across various stages in Ashgabat, audiences will be presented with both new works and well-known productions spanning different genres—all exploring themes such as moral integrity, friendship, and the search for spiritual guidance.

The forum also includes a working meeting for theater directors and stage directors to discuss the future of the performing arts and potential collaborative creative projects. The 5th International Theater Festival will conclude on November 8.
