Turkmenistan Invited to the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow

On October 27, the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is taking place in Moscow—a milestone event marking the 25th anniversary of the founding of this key international energy organization. Turkmenistan, which holds the world’s fourth-largest proven natural gas reserves, has been invited to the summit as a special guest.
Yury Ushakov, an aide to the President of the Russian Federation, emphasized the significant importance of the GECF’s coordination mechanism in the context of the ongoing transformation of global markets. GECF member states account for approximately 70% of the world’s proven natural gas reserves, 38% of global gas production, and about 42% of international pipeline-based gas trade.
Ahead of the summit, the 28th GECF Ministerial Meeting took place. The organization’s Secretary General, Mohamed Hamel, noted that by 2050, global gas demand will exceed 5.3 trillion cubic meters, with the share of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in international trade reaching 64%. Under these circumstances, timely investment in production, technological cooperation, and long-term partnerships become key factors for stability.

Turkmenistan’s participation in this high-level forum underscores Ashgabat’s growing role as a reliable global supplier of an environmentally clean energy resource, an active participant in shaping a depoliticized energy dialogue, and a proponent of diversifying international gas routes.
The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Moscow Declaration, which aims to enhance the predictability of gas markets, expand export and transit corridors, and facilitate the implementation of advanced environmental technologies.
