Ashgabat Develops National Program in Preparation for the Year of International Law

Turkmenistan has begun the practical implementation of a major global initiative: a working meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop a National Action Plan for 2026–2028, aimed at preparing for and observing the Year of International Law in 2028.
This concept gained worldwide recognition on July 24, 2026, when the UN General Assembly adopted—by consensus—a resolution initiated by Turkmenistan. This move has solidified Ashgabat’s role as a consistent advocate for the principles of peace, mutual trust, and the rule of law within the global architecture.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant government agencies and experts focused on the substantive content of a three-year roadmap. The primary objective of this National Plan is not merely to carry out a series of formal events, but to establish a systematic approach toward enhancing legal culture, upholding the principles of the UN Charter, and promoting a culture of peace—both domestically and internationally.
Participants emphasized that, in the face of contemporary global challenges, the strict observance of international law, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and respect for the sovereign interests of states remain the only reliable foundation for maintaining international security. The action plan being developed in Ashgabat is intended to serve as a practical contribution by Turkmenistan toward strengthening the global legal order in the lead-up to 2028.
