OIC Supports Turkmenistan’s Initiative on the Role of Neutrality at the Council of Foreign Ministers Session in Baghdad

A delegation from Turkmenistan participated in the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held on October 17–18 in Baghdad. A significant outcome of the forum was the unanimous adoption of a resolution initiated by Ashgabat, titled "The Role of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development within the OIC Space and Globally."
During the session, the Turkmen side outlined its priorities for engagement with the OIC, emphasizing the development of preventive diplomacy, the strengthening of trust, and the primacy of international law. In this context, the diplomats highlighted the initiative—spearheaded by Turkmenistan and supported by the UN General Assembly—to designate 2028 as the "Year of International Law."

A key focus of the discussions was the humanitarian and educational sphere. The delegation underscored the strategic importance of Turkmenistan’s attainment of observer status within the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in 2026, which opens new avenues for the implementation of joint scientific and cultural projects. Furthermore, Ashgabat reaffirmed its readiness to expand partnerships with nations of the Islamic world in the areas of energy, transport, trade, and investment.
