Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan Coordinates with ADB Experts on WTO Accession Preparations

A mission from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Asad Aleem, Regional Head for Integration and Cooperation at the Central and West Asia Department, has begun its visit to Ashgabat. The Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan—the primary coordinator for the country’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO)—is serving as the central hub for these negotiations and structured expert dialogue.
During the meetings, which will continue until October 24, specialists from the Ministry, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, the State Customs Service, and the "Turkmenstandartlary" (Turkmen Standards) Main State Service, will hold detailed discussions on advancing institutional reforms. Key focus areas include drafting the Memorandum on the Foreign Trade Regime, preparing relevant legal acts in alignment with WTO standards, and identifying priority areas for technical assistance through the ADB and the CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation) program.

The working program also places special emphasis on supporting the private sector. Under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, a specialized practical seminar for Turkmen entrepreneurs will be held on October 21–22 at the Yyldyz Hotel. Participants from the domestic business community will explore how the WTO functions, examine key requirements for international trade, and learn about new export opportunities that arise from the harmonization of trade standards.
