SCO aims to strengthen regional stability and economic cooperation
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization should step up efforts to promote regional stability, economic development and shared prosperity, Chinese Premier Li Qiang said Tuesday in Dushanbe.
Li made the remarks at the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of SCO member states, noting that this year marks the organization's 25th anniversary.
He said the SCO summit held in Bishkek in September provided fresh momentum for cooperation on peace and development, while global instability and uncertainty continue to rise.
Li stressed that SCO members should strengthen solidarity, uphold the Shanghai Spirit and improve the efficiency of practical cooperation.
He identified stronger economic and trade ties as one of the key priorities, saying the complementary strengths of member economies could help advance regional economic integration.
Li also called for the development of a stable and resilient network of international transport corridors and for efforts to safeguard global industrial and supply chains.
In the security field, China said it is ready to work with other members to accelerate the establishment of institutional frameworks and rules for four SCO security centers.
Humanitarian cooperation was also highlighted. China offered to host 1,000 medical professionals from SCO countries for further training.
Li said the organization should also deepen engagement with international partners, strengthen multilateralism and contribute to improving global governance.
Other participants at the meeting called for implementing the outcomes of the SCO summits in Tianjin and Bishkek, strengthening coordination and expanding cooperation across various fields.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the heads of government signed a joint communiqué, approved a number of cooperation documents and adopted resolutions concerning the further development of the organization.
According to CCTV+, SCO members intend to deepen cooperation in security, trade, transport and people-to-people exchanges while strengthening the organization's role in regional and international affairs.
