Turkmenistan’s Oil and Gas University Develops Partnership with Japan in Hydrogen Energy
A delegation led by the Rector of the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University paid a working visit to Japan, aimed at strengthening scientific and educational ties and fostering practical cooperation in the field of green energy.
The program included a meeting with Keisuke Nagata, President of the University of Tsukuba. The two sides held substantive discussions on launching joint scientific research, training highly qualified engineering personnel, and developing advanced technologies for producing hydrogen from natural gas.
This partnership is steadily progressing in line with a Memorandum of Understanding signed on April 7, 2025—ahead of the President of Turkmenistan’s visit to Japan—between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Japanese university.
The Turkmen delegation held a series of meetings with leadership from the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy—part of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)—and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The visit also included an in-depth look at cutting-edge developments at Chiyoda Corporation’s Kiyasu Research Park, the Hydrogen-Based Research Center (HBRC) at the University of Tsukuba, and the TIAR research institute.
During the discussions, particular attention was paid to human resource development. Currently, three faculty members from leading universities in Turkmenistan are undergoing an intensive internship at the University of Tsukuba as part of the prestigious "SDGs Global Leader" program, which is implemented with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
