Mosque Being Built in Fuzuli as Turkmenistan’s Gift to Azerbaijan May Be Opened at the End of the Year

The opening ceremony of the mosque being built in the Azerbaijani city of Fuzuli as a gift from Turkmenistan is planned for late 2026 or early 2027.
This was announced by Gurbanmammet Elyasov, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, at a formal reception in Baku marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, Trend, an Azerbaijani news agency, reports.
According to the diplomat, construction of the mosque is continuing as part of cooperation between the two countries. The project is regarded as a symbol of friendship and partnership between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
The development of cultural and humanitarian ties remains one of the key areas of bilateral cooperation. In October 2025, Turkmenistan Culture Days were held in Baku and Ganja, while events dedicated to Azerbaijani culture took place in Ashgabat and Arkadag in June 2026.
During Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to Azerbaijan on June 22–23, 2026, the two sides signed a number of documents aimed at further developing bilateral relations.
