Trump announces “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine
U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate “energy ceasefire.”
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the arrangement would take effect immediately and that both sides had agreed to it.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, told U.S. outlet Axios that he had not been aware of such an agreement. He added that Ukraine would agree to an energy ceasefire if Russia did the same.
A day earlier, Trump said he believed Moscow was ready to reach a deal to end the conflict and criticized Zelensky's position. He also called for elections to be held in Ukraine.
On Friday, Trump announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Russian diesel supplies to the United States and global markets.
The Kremlin, meanwhile, said Ukrainian drone attacks during Russia's parliamentary elections had complicated prospects for the immediate resumption of peace talks.
According to CCTV+, statements from the sides indicate that a possible energy ceasefire still requires further coordination.
