One killed, several injured in attack on Riyadh airport

Fighting between Yemen's Houthi group and the Saudi-led coalition continued on Sunday, with fresh attacks reported around major airports in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said a new attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh killed a Pakistani resident and injured 11 others.

Earlier, the coalition said an unknown projectile had struck a passenger terminal at the airport and caused a fire. The same airport had already come under attacks on October 8, killing three Saudi citizens. Another strike on Saturday killed 12 people and injured 309.

Authorities later reported an attack on King Fahd International Airport near Dammam, where damage assessments and safety inspections were launched.

The Houthi group said it had carried out four missile and drone operations against Saudi airports and energy facilities over the previous 24 hours. Its military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the targets included two airports and two Saudi Aramco facilities.

Saudi airstrikes, meanwhile, continued across Houthi-held areas of Yemen. The group said 124 strikes had been carried out over the previous day against Sanaa and several other provinces.

The escalation has drawn international concern. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack on Riyadh airport and called for an end to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was ready to help facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen and support efforts toward a political settlement.

According to CCTV+, the latest escalation marks one of the most serious flare-ups since the UN-brokered truce in 2022.
