Meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers Held in Avaza Under Turkmenistan’s Chairmanship

On October 7, a regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place in the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone, bringing together the heads of foreign affairs agencies from Commonwealth countries and the CIS Secretary General. Participants reviewed the organization's preliminary results under Turkmenistan’s chairmanship and in the lead-up to the landmark 35th anniversary of the CIS.
During the talks, the parties exchanged views on key international and regional agenda items, placing special emphasis on strengthening foreign policy coordination and improving cooperation mechanisms. The meeting agenda also covered cultural and humanitarian cooperation, sports, tourism, and youth policy.

A major practical outcome of the meeting was the signing of a package of joint documents. These included a decision—adopted at Turkmenistan’s initiative—to declare 2029 the "Year of Transport Connectivity in the Commonwealth." Additionally, the parties signed a protocol decision regarding the venue and date of the next Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, a decision on the action plan for preparing for the 2027 "Year of Legal Education in the CIS," and a decision on the plan for multi-level political consultations between foreign ministries.
