Hungarian logistics company warns of growing pressure from fuel crisisMajor
Hungarian logistics company Supernova Intertrans Kft. says the freight sector is facing mounting pressure from volatile fuel prices, supply shortages and a lack of drivers.
The company, based outside Budapest, operates a fleet of around 200 trucks and is one of Hungary's largest international freight operators.
General Manager Balazs Veres said fuel prices remain highly unstable, while diesel shortages have begun to appear in Hungary and elsewhere in Europe. He added that a shortage of drivers is also affecting the transport industry across the region.
Veres said small and medium-sized haulage companies are particularly vulnerable. Over the past five years, around 2,300 Hungarian firms have reportedly gone bankrupt or surrendered their transport licenses, leaving the domestic and international freight markets.
He also noted that the freight sector is often among the first to reflect changes in wider economic activity. Although transport volumes have recovered slightly since early September, higher fuel costs and the effects of the continuing Middle East conflict remain a significant burden.
According to CCTV+, volatile fuel prices, potential diesel shortages and labor constraints are adding new risks to European logistics networks, with smaller transport companies facing particular pressure.
