Nobel laureate Konstantin Novoselov calls for human leadership in scientific discovery
Physicist and Nobel laureate Konstantin Novoselov has said human intuition and creativity should remain at the center of scientific research despite the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
He said AI has already become a powerful tool and transformed many areas of science, but argued that the creative side of research should continue to be led by humans.
Novoselov noted that AI systems have recently demonstrated an ability to solve complex mathematical problems, fueling debate over the potential role of large language models in future scientific breakthroughs.
At the same time, he warned against excessive reliance on AI tools. Researchers, he said, must verify results, identify factual errors and distinguish reliable findings from AI-generated hallucinations.
Novoselov also said responsibility for the use of new technologies should not rest with scientists alone. In his view, researchers, governments and society as a whole should share responsibility for ensuring that AI is used safely and responsibly.
According to CCTV+, Novoselov sees artificial intelligence as an important scientific tool but stresses the need to preserve human control over interpretation, creativity and decision-making.
