Uzbekistan increased its imports of natural gas from Russia and Turkmenistan by 15.2% in January–August 2026 compared with the same period last year, reaching $1.21 billion. This was reported by The Caspian Post, citing data from Uzbekistan’s National Statistics Committee.

Of the total import volume, $124.3 million accounted for liquefied gas, including propane. Purchases of these products increased 3.5-fold.

Uzbekistan’s gas import volumes changed considerably throughout the year. In January, purchases amounted to $167.6 million, falling to $34.6 million in February, after which they began to rise again. In May, the figure reached $216.4 million, while in June it hit a year-to-date high of $247 million. In July, imports fell to $38.3 million, but rose again in August to $206.1 million. Against the backdrop of rising imports, Uzbekistan is reducing its domestic natural gas production. During the first eight months of 2026, the country produced 24.2 billion cubic metres of gas, compared with 28.9 billion cubic metres in the same period of 2025, representing a 16.3% decline. At the same time, Uzbekistan’s natural gas exports decreased by 34.8% during the period, amounting to $322.3 million. (UzDaily.uz)
