Xi Jinping called for firm confidence and steady steps toward national rejuvenation. A country's long-term development depends not only on ambitious goals, but also on consistent action, confidence and the ability to adapt to changing conditions. The combination of strategic direction and practical steps plays an important role in maintaining stability and supporting further development.

A reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on September 30. Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered a speech at the event.

Premier Li Qiang presided over the reception. Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng also attended, along with around 800 Chinese and foreign guests.

In his address, Xi extended greetings to people from all walks of life across the country and expressed appreciation to friendly countries and international partners supporting China's development.

He said that over the past 77 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the country had achieved major economic growth and maintained long-term social stability.

Speaking about the current economic situation, Xi said that despite mounting pressures, China's economy continued to advance, with greater emphasis on innovation-driven and high-quality development.

He called for efforts to maintain this momentum, promote innovation and sound economic growth, take practical steps to improve people's livelihoods and accomplish the targets set for the year. According to Xi, these efforts should help ensure a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan for 2026–2030.

Xi also reaffirmed China's commitment to the principle of “one country, two systems,” under which Hong Kong and Macao maintain a high degree of autonomy. He said the central government would continue supporting the two regions in integrating more fully into the country's overall development while maintaining their long-term prosperity and stability.

Turning to cross-Strait relations, Xi called for deeper exchanges and cooperation, opposition to separatist activities and external interference, and efforts to promote the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait. On foreign policy, Xi said China would continue to pursue an independent policy of peace, advance the implementation of its major global initiatives and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.

The reception concluded with Chinese and foreign guests raising their glasses in celebration of the PRC's 77th anniversary. China's National Day is observed on October 1.

According to CCTV+, Xi Jinping's address focused on China's future domestic development, national unity and the country's foreign policy direction. The remarks reflected the Chinese leadership's stated intention to combine economic development, social stability and long-term national objectives as the country enters a new stage of development.
