Poetry Evening and Competition Was Held in Ashgabat to Mark Persian Literature Day

On September 25, the Cultural Center of the Embassy of Iran in Turkmenistan hosted a cultural evening and creative competition. The event was dedicated to Persian Poetry and Literature Day, as well as the memory of the renowned Iranian poet Shahriar (Seyyed Mohammad-Hossein Behjat Tabrizi).

The celebration was attended by Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani, Ambassador of Iran to Turkmenistan; Cultural Counselor Abdolreza Abbasi; Iranian diplomats; as well as students and teachers of Persian language courses.

Welcoming the guests, Counselor Abdolreza Abbasi noted that the works of the poet Shahriar in Persian and Azerbaijani serve as a unique cultural bridge between Iran and Turkic-speaking peoples. He emphasized that the legacy of such great poets as Magtymguly Pyragy, Jalaluddin Rumi, Nizami Ganjavi and Shahriar symbolizes the centuries-old friendship and spiritual kinship of peoples. Ambassador Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani added that Shahriar’s poetry is distinguished by its simplicity, sincerity and profound meaning.

As part of the programme, a competition was held among teams of students and teachers.

The participants recited poems, answered questions on literature, prepared wall newspapers, performed tongue twisters and provided voice-overs for animated films in Persian.

Following the competition, the teacher of the winning team was presented with a traditional Iranian termeh tablecloth. All other participants and teachers received commemorative gifts from the Cultural Center.
