United Russia leads State Duma elections with 57.83% after 95% of ballots counted
Elections are not merely a count of votes but a reflection of citizens' trust in the authorities and their hopes for the future. Preliminary results show the ruling party retains its majority, but the final picture will become clear after the full count.
Preliminary results show that the ruling party "United Russia" received 57.83% of the vote in elections to the 9th State Duma, the lower house of parliament, Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairperson Ella Pamfilova said at a press conference on Monday.
According to the CEC, after counting 95.18% of ballots, United Russia was leading with 57.83% of the vote, followed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation with 13.81% and the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia with 8.98%. The parties "New People" and "A Just Russia" received 7.96% and 4.96% of the vote, respectively.
According to the CEC, turnout in these elections, held from Friday to Sunday, was 59.32%, higher than the 2021 figure (51.72%). The State Duma is Russia's permanent legislative body, consisting of 450 deputies.
Half of the seats are distributed proportionally according to party lists, and the remaining 225 are elected in single-mandate constituencies across the country under a relative majority system. Ten political parties took part in the elections. Final results are expected to be announced on Friday, Pamfilova said.
