Turkmenistan and Afghanistan Prepare Roadmap for TAP Project (500 kV Transmission Line)

Turkmenistan and Afghanistan are stepping up the practical implementation of the 500 kV transmission line project (TAP), designed to increase supplies of Turkmen electricity to Afghanistan and, subsequently, to Pakistan.
According to the Afghanistan News24 news agency, details regarding the acceleration of the project were discussed in Kabul during a meeting between Murad Artykov, the head of Turkmenistan’s international energy projects, and Abdul Haq Hamkar, the CEO of the power company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).
A key outcome of the talks was an agreement to soon approve a preliminary roadmap for the TAP project, which will establish the final timelines and stages for commissioning the infrastructure.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed the full range of joint electric power projects. Regarding the TAP project (500 kV transmission line), a set of measures was agreed upon to accelerate construction work aimed at significantly increasing electricity imports from Turkmenistan.
Regarding the "Nur-ul-Jihad" substation in Herat province, the Turkmen side confirmed its readiness to assist in completing the remaining technical work at the facility. As for electricity supply to Badghis province, specific steps were discussed to expand power delivery to the border district of Bala Murghab.
The Turkmen delegation noted the significant progress made in preparing infrastructure on Afghan territory and expressed readiness to complete all technical procedures as quickly as possible, marking another step toward establishing a unified transit and energy bridge between Central and South Asia.
