The Countdown Has Begun! Formula 1 Returns to Istanbul in 2027
Formula 1 has unveiled the calendar for the 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship. A special place on the calendar is reserved for the Turkish Grand Prix: practice sessions and qualifying will take place on October 1–2, while the main race of the season will be held on October 3.
After a long break, the starting lights will once again illuminate TOSFED İstanbul Park in Istanbul, and five red lights will go out to signal the beginning of an exciting battle on the track.
The return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the Formula 1 calendar was first announced in April at a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. After a six-year absence, the world’s fastest racing series will once again bring the world’s top drivers and thousands of fans together in Istanbul — one of the most impressive metropolises on the planet, connecting two continents.
The Turkish Grand Prix will be held for the tenth time at TOSFED İstanbul Park, one of the most technically challenging circuits on the championship calendar.
TOSFED İstanbul Park — A Circuit Built for Speed and Precision
TOSFED İstanbul Park offers 5.3 kilometres of pure adrenaline. The circuit features numerous overtaking zones, while its sharp elevation changes test both the skill and endurance of the driver and the capabilities of the car.
The jewel of the circuit is the legendary Turn 8 — a multi-apex left-hand corner taken at incredibly high speed. It demands perfect balance from the drivers and subjects them and their cars to significant lateral loads.
This combination of speed, technical complexity and an unpredictable rhythm makes every race here a true spectacle — with fans becoming direct witnesses to the action.
With Formula 1 returning to Türkiye, Istanbul once again becomes the stage for one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events.
The Turkish Grand Prix is expected to provide significant momentum for both the city and the country. The event will strengthen Türkiye’s position on the international sporting stage, contribute to the growth of sports tourism, increase Istanbul’s media visibility and enhance the country’s brand value, while also having a tangible impact on the metropolis’s economy.
TGA Film “Catch It If You Can” Captures Global Audience Attention
Following the confirmation of the race date, a new phase of the international promotional campaign for the 2027 Turkish Formula 1 Grand Prix was launched.
A key element of the campaign was the promotional film “Catch It If You Can,” produced by the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The film received a major response from audiences worldwide, with its number of views exceeding 571 million.
In the near future, Istanbul’s global visibility is expected to be significantly strengthened. This will be supported by the implementation of international media projects, the launch of targeted digital campaigns, partnerships with international content creators, and a large-scale promotional campaign focused entirely on Istanbul as a key destination and center of attraction.
The return of the Turkish Formula 1 Grand Prix to the racing calendar is the result of years of efforts and consistent initiatives by TOSFED, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
In accordance with the agreements reached, Formula 1 races at TOSFED İstanbul Park, organized by TOSFED, are scheduled to take place from 2027 to 2031.
