Xi Jinping calls on BRICS countries to stand firmly on the right side of history
At a time of rapid global transformation, the principles that shape the future of international relations are becoming increasingly important. With the Global South gaining strength and the trend toward a multipolar world becoming irreversible, BRICS countries, in the view of the Chinese leader, should not merely respond to change but help shape it responsibly.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said Saturday that BRICS countries should stand firmly on the right side of history and strive to be pioneers of their time.
Speaking at the first session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, Xi Jinping stressed that the world is undergoing an accelerated transformation unseen in a century. The countries of the Global South are rapidly gaining strength, while the trend toward a multipolar world has become irreversible.
At the same time, he noted, unilateralism and power politics are intensifying, placing growing pressure on multilateralism and the international order, while deficits in peace, development, security and global governance continue to widen.
Xi said BRICS countries should help steer the international order toward greater fairness and equality and work together to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
He also called on BRICS countries to be pioneers in innovative development, in maintaining peace and stability, in promoting mutual learning among civilizations, and in reforming and improving global governance.
