India to advance Global South agenda at BRICS summit in New Delhi

The Global South is no longer content to be an observer. It seeks to shape the rules of the game, and BRICS is becoming the platform where the voices of developing countries are heard loud and clear. Strengthening resilience, innovation and cooperation are not just slogans but tools that can change the architecture of the global economy and politics.

India is expected to advance the agenda of Global South countries at the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi on Saturday and Sunday, said a senior executive editor of Indian broadcaster NewsX World in an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN). Megha Sharma, senior executive editor of NewsX World, noted that strengthening economic resilience is one of India's priorities during its BRICS chairmanship this year.

The theme of the upcoming BRICS summit is "Strengthening Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainable Development." "Strengthening resilience and innovation, cooperation and sustainable development is another step forward in advancing the Global South agenda. When we talk about innovation, we talk about digital public infrastructure. That is something India has been consistently promoting," Sharma said. She added that successful outcomes of the summit could include progress in counter-terrorism cooperation and in building digital infrastructure.

"Counter-terrorism cooperation. There have been many terrorist acts. There is a need to create digital infrastructure, digital public infrastructure, whether it is UPI (Unified Payments Interface), which India is promoting and successfully implementing in the countries of the subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Africa," Sharma said.

Since its creation two decades ago, the BRICS cooperation mechanism has evolved into a group of 11 full member states and 10 partner countries, together representing major emerging markets and developing economies around the world.

As reported by CCTV+, the upcoming summit in New Delhi will be an important platform for discussing key challenges facing the Global South. India, as chair, intends to focus on digital infrastructure, counter-terrorism and sustainable development, which should strengthen BRICS' role as a driving force for a multipolar world.
