Turkmen Athletes Win 11 Medals at the 6th World Nomad Games
Turkmen athletes won 11 medals—2 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze—at the 6th World Nomad Games, which concluded in Kyrgyzstan. The Turkmenistan team, comprising 14 athletes and 7 coaches, finished 7th in the overall medal standings.
The competitions took place in Bishkek and Cholpon-Ata and marked the largest event in the history of the Games, featuring approximately 3,000 athletes and representatives from 106 countries competing across 43 disciplines.
Successful Performances in National Wrestling Disciplines
The first gold medal for Turkmenistan was secured by Annagurban Allaberdiyev, a serviceman from Ministry of Defence Unit No. 20020, who won the Turkmen national goresh wrestling event in the over-100 kg weight category.
Nurmukhammet Baydogdyev won a second gold medal in the Kyrgyz national alysh wrestling (freestyle) in the over-100 kg category. In the same discipline, silver medals went to Abdyresul Durdyev, Silapberdi Nuryev, and Mekan Nurberdiev.
Representatives from Turkmenistan also reached the podium in ssirym, Kyrgyz kurosh, Uzbek kurash, Tajik gushtini milli kamarbandi, Kazakh kuresi, and Azerbaijani gyulesh.
Improved Results
The results of the 6th Games demonstrate significant progress by the Turkmen team. For comparison, at the previous World Nomad Games held in Astana in 2024, Turkmenistan’s athletes won four medals: one gold, one silver, and two bronze.
Thus, the current result represents more than a twofold increase in the total medal count. Overall, throughout their history of participation in the World Nomad Games, Turkmen athletes have won 96 medals: 37 gold, 19 silver, and 40 bronze.
The Next Games Will Be Held in Kazan
The World Nomad Games, an initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic, are expanding their international reach with each successive edition. Following Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Kazakhstan, the baton for hosting the 7th Games in 2028 has been passed to Kazan, in the Republic of Tatarstan (Russian Federation).
For Turkmenistan, participation in competitions of this kind serves as a vital platform for the development and international promotion of national wrestling styles and traditional ethnosports.
