A Second Direct Train Service Has Been Launched from Chengdu to Turkmenistan
The international transport network between China and Central Asia is expanding the geography of direct freight traffic. The first train departed from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, en route to the Turkmen border station of Serakhs. This service marks the second direct overland freight route linking Southwest China's largest economic hub with Turkmenistan.
The development of this route reflects the systemic transformation of the region's logistics infrastructure. Since the launch of the China-Central Asia freight train program in 2014, the route network has expanded from local connections between Chengdu, Almaty, and Tashkent to include key hubs in Astana, Bishkek, Dushanbe, and Serakhs. Entering an additional route to Turkmenistan strengthens Serakhs's status as a key transit gateway between Central and South Asia, ensuring seamless trade flows.
Xinhua News Agency emphasizes that the second logistics service launched between China's largest industrial park and Turkmenistan marks the emergence of overland trade between the regions on a systematic, industrial level.
