CGTN Presents a Documentary Film Marking the 25th Anniversary of the SCO
In June 2026, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) officially celebrated its 25th anniversary. Over the quarter century since its establishment in 2001, the organization has undergone an impressive evolution — from a specialized regional structure focused on confidence-building and the demilitarization of border areas to one of the most influential international organizations with a global reach.
As this significant 25-year milestone is assessed, the international expert and media communities continue to examine in detail the rich legacy, current achievements and long-term strategic prospects of the Eurasian integration platform.
To mark the occasion, CGTN (CMG), in cooperation with the SCO Secretariat, has produced a large-scale documentary project entitled “For the Future: On the 25th Anniversary of the SCO.” The film is built around the fundamental concept of the “Shanghai Spirit” — the principles of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, mutual consultation, deep respect for cultural diversity and an unwavering commitment to shared prosperity.
The documentary is based on real human stories, interviews with leading experts and diplomats, as well as exclusive archival materials. It demonstrates how important decisions made at the highest governmental level over the past decades were gradually implemented and transformed into tangible positive changes for people across the Eurasian region.
The documentary explores in detail how, over time, the SCO expanded its horizons far beyond its initial focus on security and defense issues, becoming a powerful driver of economic, infrastructure, scientific and cultural development across the continent.
The filmmakers pay particular attention to the human dimension of integration processes. Through examples of major projects in transport, energy and environmental protection, the film shows the creation of thousands of new jobs, the development of international logistics corridors, the introduction of green-economy technologies, and the rapid expansion of cooperation in education and academic exchanges.
Another central theme of the documentary is a vision of the future. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of younger generations, the adoption of digital innovations and the formation of a fair multipolar world order. The SCO’s 25-year journey confirms its position as a reliable foundation for constructive dialogue and as an organization that continues to shape key directions for ensuring security and sustainable economic development across Eurasia.
