Turkmenistan May Attract New Green Investments with GGGI Support
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is ready to expand its support for Turkmenistan in implementing green development projects following the completion of work on the Host Country Agreement (HCA). The organization said this in an exclusive comment to the Trend news agency.
GGGI noted that it expects to continue constructive dialogue with the Government of Turkmenistan and identify practical areas for further cooperation.
Following the completion of the necessary institutional procedures and receipt of an official request from the Turkmen side, the institute is ready to support project preparation, the development of sustainable financing, the strengthening of climate resilience, and capacity building in line with the country's national priorities.
Particular attention is expected to be given to areas related to the development of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and attracting green investment. GGGI also expects upcoming regional events involving the Republic of Korea and Central Asian countries in September to create additional opportunities to strengthen the partnership and identify specific areas of cooperation in green development.
According to the organization, the main goal of the partnership is to combine international expertise with Turkmenistan's national priorities in order to achieve practical economic and environmental results.
GGGI's country program for Turkmenistan for 2025–2026 provides support for the country's climate initiatives, including the development of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and diversifying the green economy. It also envisages assistance in attracting climate finance and strengthening institutional capacity to implement sustainable development projects.
This year, representatives of Turkmenistan and GGGI held a number of meetings in Seoul, during which they discussed further expansion of cooperation. The parties continue working toward the conclusion of the Host Country Agreement, which is intended to provide a foundation for the institute's long-term activities in Turkmenistan.
GGGI is an intergovernmental organization headquartered in Seoul. It was established in 2012 at the initiative of the Republic of Korea to promote green growth and climate-resilient development. The institute cooperates with more than 50 member states and partner countries.
