Diving in Türkiye: The Best Places for Shipwreck and Cave Exploration

Türkiye has long ceased to be a destination solely for lazy beach holidays. Today, more than 65% of active tourists choose the Turkish coast for snorkeling and diving. Surrounded by three seas, the country offers a huge selection of safe and incredibly beautiful locations for both beginners and professionals.

The main attraction in the Mediterranean Sea is considered to be Kas in the Antalya province, which is ranked among the top ten best diving spots in the world. Here, divers can encounter rare sea turtles and swim past antique amphorae. Of particular interest is the submerged "Dakota" airplane, which has become a picturesque artificial reef, and the deep "Canyon" with wreckage from a historic vessel.
The Aegean coast attracts connoisseurs of underwater topography. In Bodrum, the Big and Small reefs with colorful sponges are popular, while in Cheshme, experienced divers explore the famous underwater cave known as the "Bedroom." In Kusadasi, thrill-seekers can dive to the giant Airbus A300 passenger plane, which was specifically submerged on the seabed.

For history buffs, the unique Gallipoli underwater park in Chanakkale is open in the northern Aegean Sea. Along the coast, there are 17 military diving points where ships from the First World War rest at shallow depths. Diving to these steel giants allows one to literally touch the pages of world history frozen on the seabed.
