The Bulgarian city of Burgas has been selected to host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest. The decision by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) was announced on August 13. The contest will take place in May 2027.

Burgas is the first city in Bulgaria to host the world's largest international music television show. The organizers' choice follows Bulgaria's first-ever Eurovision victory: singer DARA won the 2026 contest in Vienna with the song "Bangaranga."

Why Burgas?

Four Bulgarian cities competed to host the contest. Sofia was also among the candidates, but the EBU chose Burgas, citing its infrastructure, hotel options, transport accessibility, and experience hosting major cultural and international events.

The organizers also cited the city's location on the Black Sea coast, its developed tourist infrastructure, and its vibrant cultural life as additional advantages. The EBU assessed that Burgas is capable of offering participants and spectators a venue commensurate with the scale of Eurovision.

The Competition Will Be Held at Arena Burgas.

The main venue for the competition will be Arena Burgas, a modern sports and entertainment complex opened in 2023.

The two semi-finals will take place on May 11 and 13, 2027, with the final on May 15. In addition to the television shows, the city will host a program of Eurovision Week events, including Eurovision Village and EuroClub.

The First Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria

Hosting Eurovision 2027 will be a historic event for Bulgaria. The country won the contest for the first time after DARA won the competition in Vienna.

Eurovision Director Martin Green stated that the organizers intend to create a contest in Burgas that will simultaneously highlight Bulgarian identity and preserve the recognizable atmosphere of Eurovision. The city will host artists, national delegations, journalists, and fans from around the world.
