When warplanes strike residential areas and bridges, the cost of conflict becomes even more tangible. Civilian casualties are not just statistics — they are tragedies that undermine any attempts at diplomatic resolution. Iran again alleges war crimes, while the US continues its strikes, citing the need to protect shipping lanes. In this standoff, where each side believes it is right, the ones who suffer are ordinary people whose homes and lives lie in the line of fire.

Late on Thursday and early on Friday, the US carried out airstrikes on southern Iran, killing eight people and wounding 19, according to the deputy governor of Hormozgan province, whose capital, Bandar Abbas, was the main target of the strikes. Iran's semi official Tasnim news agency reported on Thursday that US strikes hit residential areas, communications towers and bridges in several locations, including Bandar Abbas, the port of Sirik and Qeshm Island.

Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, in a letter to the UN on Thursday, strongly condemned the US attacks on non military infrastructure. He said the military actions were a serious violation of international humanitarian law and constituted war crimes, Iranian media reported on Friday. Separately, Hossein Kermanpour, head of the public relations and information centre at Iran's Ministry of Health, said on Friday that at least 38 people had been killed and more than 400 wounded across the country since the resumption of hostilities with the US on 22 June, with 47 still in hospital.

The US Iran conflict resumed in mid July after Iran attempted to close the Strait of Hormuz. The US says its strikes are aimed at protecting freedom of navigation and targeting military sites, but Iranian sources indicate that civilian infrastructure has also been affected. International humanitarian law prohibits attacks on non military targets.

As CCTV+ reports. The situation remains extremely tense, and international observers are urging both sides to de escalate, warning that further strikes on civilian sites could lead to even more serious consequences.
