A Turkmen Delegation in New York Is Studying Global Experience to Defend Its National Report to the UN

The High-Level Political Forum under the auspices of ECOSOC—the primary global forum for assessing the planet's progress toward achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals—is concluding at the UN headquarters in New York. The delegation of Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Perkhat Yagshiyev, which also included diplomats and specialists from the State Statistics Committee, actively participated in the final, most influential ministerial segment of the forum from July 13 to 15.
This year, discussions among world leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock, centered on sensitive and highly practical issues: global freshwater shortages ahead of the water summit in Abu Dhabi in December, accelerating the transition to clean energy, and supporting small businesses and smart, eco-friendly cities. UN leaders have clearly stated that to save the planet's climate and social programs, a profound reform of the international financial system is necessary.

For Turkmenistan, this working visit has purely practical significance. Our country successfully defended its Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) in 2019 and 2023, and this visit to New York was a crucial step in systematic preparation for the defense of the third national report, scheduled for 2027.
Working on the sidelines of the forum allowed Turkmen experts to thoroughly study the experience of 36 countries submitting their reports this year and adopt the most advanced international methods for monitoring and integrating global indicators into the national economy.
