The implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project was discussed during the meeting of the Cooperation Council of the European Union and Azerbaijan. In the information of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry it is noted that the parties paid special attention to the issues of construction of the component part of the SGC - the Trans Adriatic Pipeline. Currently, Brussels pays special attention to the promotion of the SGC project, intended for the supply of Azerbaijani "blue fuel" to the countries of southern Europe. At the first stage, the pipeline is scheduled to supply 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year, 6 of which are intended for Turkey, and 10 for the Old World. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2019-2020. In the long term, the European Union expects to use the infrastructure of SGC for deliveries of Turkmen and Kazakh natural gas to the European market. According to experts, Azerbaijani gas will not be able to load all the capacities of the Southern Gas Corridor. And in order to organize reliable gas supplies to the European market, which would allow us to talk about the full diversification of the energy supply of the Old World, it is necessary to connect gas from Central Asia, primarily Turkmenistan, to the South Caucasus. To implement this project, it is necessary to lay a pipeline along the bottom of the Caspian - the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline. Experts believe that after the signing by the Caspian countries of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian, which is scheduled for the first half of this year, the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline will not take long to wait.
