On July 1, official events were held in Ashgabat to mark the inauguration of the new head of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Kenya. Newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary John Maina Mwangi (with residence in Tehran) held meetings at the National Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

On instructions from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Speaker of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova accepted the Kenyan diplomat's credentials. The Speaker of the Parliament briefed the guest on the key priorities of the country's domestic and peaceful foreign policy, the structure of the Mejlis, and its current legislative activities. In turn, John Maina Mwangi conveyed warm greetings to the Turkmen leader from Kenyan President William Samoi Ruto. The parties agreed that intensifying bilateral contacts is in the long-term interests of both countries.

That same day, the diplomat met with Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, during which the Ambassador presented copies of his credentials. The two discussed in detail the prospects for trade and economic ties and the expansion of the legal framework. Energy, agriculture, transport, and textiles were identified as key sectors where Ashgabat and Nairobi have significant potential for partnership.

The talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also focused on coordinating efforts on the international stage, primarily within the UN. Turkmenistan invited Kenya to join the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development, established on Ashgabat's initiative. Furthermore, the diplomats outlined steps to strengthen contacts in scientific, educational, cultural, and sports fields.
