Masterpieces of the East in Namangan: III International Maqom Art Forum Will Begin
From June 23 to 26, 2026, the third International Maqom Art Forum will take place in the Uzbek city of Namangan. This prestigious cultural event, held every two years under the auspices of UNESCO and ICESCO, will bring together leading musicians, scholars, and performers from around the world.
The main objective of this large-scale gathering is to preserve, develop, and promote the unique classical musical heritage of the East among younger generations, while also strengthening international cultural and creative ties.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the forum program is divided into three key sections:
• International Competition – a contest for vocal and instrumental ensembles, solo singers, and instrumental performers;
• Scientific and Practical Conference – expert discussions on integrating traditional music into the modern cultural landscape;
• Creative Evenings – solo concerts featuring renowned maqom masters from various countries.
A substantial prize fund has been allocated for the competition participants. The Grand Prix winner will receive US$15,000. Winners of first, second, and third places will be awarded diplomas, commemorative statuettes, and cash prizes of US$10,000, US$7,000, and US$5,000, respectively.
In addition, the jury will present awards in special categories, including “The Best Young Performer,” “The Best Composer,” and “The Best Maqom Master.”
For lovers of traditional music, the forum offers a rare opportunity to experience exemplary performances of some of the oldest musical masterpieces. The event is expected not only to introduce new talents to the global stage but also to elevate international dialogue in the field of art to a new level.
