Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and China exceeded $10 billion

The results of cooperation between Turkmenistan and China for 2017 as well as prospects for further cooperation between the countries were summed up today at a special press briefing in Beijing. It was announced that the Turkmen-Chinese trade turnover exceeded $10 billion in 2017, and the energy sector remains the main in cooperation. Last year, for example, Turkmenistan exported more than 30 billion cubic meters of gas to China, noted Chinar Rustamova, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to China. Turkmen-Chinese relations are being beefed up in the transport and logistics sphere also. For example, at the end of last year three container trains from various Chinese provinces along the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transport corridor were launched, which shortened more than twice the cargo transit time between China and Iran. The Turkmen-Chinese business forum, which was held in January this year, was productive, and five projects in the field of trade and investment were agreed upon. One of them is a framework agreement between the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and the “Chinese Engineering Corporation SAMS" Public Corporation on the construction of ore-dressing and processing plant at the potassium salt field in Lebap province of Turkmenistan. With the opening of the Turkmen Visa Center in Beijing, the cooperation of countries in tourism has intensified much more. Moreover, this is only beginning, because both countries today have set themselves one historically important mission - to revive the Great Silk Road. In this regard, the Embassy of Turkmenistan to China plans to organize a number of events that will open new opportunities for the development of cooperation between the countries both in tourism and in transport-and-logistics sphere.
