Finland's New Ambassador Presented Her Credentials in Ashgabat

On June 10, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova, on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, accepted the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to Turkmenistan, Maria Ågren.
The speaker of the national parliament congratulated the diplomat on her appointment and wished her success in strengthening bilateral dialogue. Maria Ågren, in turn, conveyed warm greetings from Finnish President Alexander Stubb to the head of Turkmenistan. During the conversation, the European diplomat was briefed in detail on the strategic directions of Ashgabat's peace-oriented foreign policy, as well as the Mejlis's comprehensive work to modernize the national legislative framework.
The parties noted the high potential for expanding trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and, particularly, interparliamentary contacts. They emphasized their mutual interest in exchanging legislative experience, which will serve as a solid foundation for rapprochement between the two countries.
On the same day, the Finnish Ambassador (with residence in Helsinki) met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova. The parties discussed practical steps to enhance cooperation. The diplomats agreed on the need to intensify interagency consultations and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to developing partnership both bilaterally and within reputable international platforms, primarily through effective dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
