The surf, Avaza, and hundreds of people united by a shared breath—the ecologically pristine Caspian coastline hosted the festive opening of a series of events celebrating the 12th International Day of Yoga. The Embassy of India in Turkmenistan chose this picturesque location for the demonstration, which brought together not only residents of Turkmenbashi but also passionate enthusiasts who traveled especially from Balkanabat.

ORIENT highlighted this year's profound social manifesto. Organizers announced the official theme of International Yoga Day 2026: "Yoga for Healthy Aging."

This global message, formulated by the relevant Indian ministry, completely reimagines this ancient practice. Here, yoga is not presented as complex acrobatics, but as a free, accessible tool for maintaining mental clarity, improving memory, reducing stress, and prolonging an active, fulfilling life. The presence of yoga mats on Avaza beach, spread out by people of all ages, was the best practical illustration of this point.

As noted at the opening of the festival, this tradition, which originated over 5,000 years ago, has today become one of the strongest humanitarian bridges between New Delhi and Ashgabat. A symbol of this spiritual connection is the Center for Yoga and Traditional Medicine, which has operated in the capital's Bagtyyarlyk Sports Complex since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's historic visit to Turkmenistan in 2015.

The Indian side expressed deep gratitude to the government of Turkmenistan for its long-standing support and assistance in promoting a healthy lifestyle, particularly noting the similarity of their values: the Indian commitment to universal harmony perfectly aligns with Turkmenistan's policy of permanent neutrality.

The "marine" demonstration in Avaza was only a striking prologue. The organizers' main goal is to spark public interest and involve as many Turkmen citizens as possible in the main celebration of International Yoga Day, which traditionally takes place on June 21.
