The company is hiring local engineers, cooperating with European partners and tackling the public’s trust in driverless technologies

As reported by CCTV+, Chinese company ZYT, a specialist in intelligent driving systems, has opened its European headquarters in Braunschweig, aiming to combine Chinese software expertise with German engineering.

The new office is located near Volkswagen’s base in Wolfsburg. ZYT said that future autonomous driving systems will be developed jointly with European partners.

ZYT CEO Shen Shaojie said: “We are here for engineering. We produce high-quality products here, hire good engineers and work closely with local partners.”

The opening comes amid growing pressure on Germany’s automotive industry from global competition and the shift to software-defined vehicles. Many believe the sector’s future depends as much on AI and software as on traditional engineering.

Karsten Kromke, Senior Executive Director for Integrated Infotainment, Information and Computing Systems at Volkswagen Group, noted: “Chinese technology companies, especially in autonomous driving, software-defined vehicle development and digitalisation, can certainly be called leaders in the global automotive industry. We German OEMs are strong in system integration, safety and understanding of brands and markets.”

One of the biggest challenges facing autonomous driving in Europe is public trust. Franco, a test pilot and engineer, shared: “Some people feel a bit uncomfortable, but after 10-15 minutes they begin to feel the smooth ride and confidence.”

Robin Schmidt, an influential automotive industry figure, added: “Europeans are very, very good at building cars. But the Chinese, frankly, are much better at software development.”

According to analysts, cooperation between Chinese software developers and European automakers is becoming increasingly important, especially amid rising trade tensions with the US and the prospect of new tariffs on European cars.

Note: ZYT is a Chinese company specialising in intelligent driving systems. Opening a headquarters in Germany is a step towards creating a European centre of competence for autonomous technologies.

Chinese software and German mechanics. Two forces that once competed have now decided to join forces. ZYT did not come to Braunschweig just to open an office. It came to learn and to teach. Germans are strong in manufacturing and system integration. The Chinese are much better at software and digitalisation.

Together, they can create something that neither can achieve alone. The question is not whether the cooperation will be successful. It has already begun. The question is how quickly European drivers will stop being afraid of driverless cars. While they are getting used to it, the engineers are already working. And trust comes. After 10-15 minutes of a test drive. Just as Franco said.
