Wang Yi: China Ready to Cooperate with Turkmenistan on Major Projects and Strengthen Bilateral Ties
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that China is ready to cooperate with Turkmenistan in implementing the agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, promoting cooperation on major projects and breathing new life into bilateral relations.
During a meeting with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, Wang Yi thanked Meredov for making a special trip to New York to attend a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council.
The more complex and unstable the international situation becomes, the more important it is to uphold multilateralism and protect the authority of the United Nations. Otherwise, the countries of the Global South will suffer the most, said Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Noting that the UN serves as an important platform for cooperation between China and Turkmenistan, he said that both sides should further strengthen coordination, support each other’s major initiatives and demonstrate the high level of the China-Turkmenistan comprehensive strategic partnership.
Wang stated that the successful visit to China in March of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, had further strengthened mutual trust and friendship between the leaders of the two countries, providing a solid strategic guarantee for the development of bilateral relations.
For his part, Meredov noted that in the current international context, it is particularly important to uphold the UN Charter, as well as to reform and improve global governance.
He said that Turkmenistan highly values its comprehensive strategic partnership with China. The two countries share deep political mutual trust, frequently exchange high-level information and have strong momentum in their pragmatic cooperation.
Turkmenistan is ready to cooperate with China in promoting cooperation on major projects such as natural gas field development, expanding cooperation in areas such as trade and transport infrastructure, and taking bilateral relations to a new level, Meredov added.
