Guterres Thanked Turkmenistan for Its Leadership in Promoting a Global Policy of Trust
A meeting between Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and UN Secretary-General António Guterres took place at the UN headquarters. The Turkmen Foreign Minister conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the UN Secretary-General on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The parties focused on key areas of long-term cooperation between Ashgabat and the UN, as well as the most pressing aspects of the global and regional agenda.
Particular emphasis was placed during the conversation on the importance of the UN General Assembly resolution on the role of the neutralized status policy in strengthening peace and sustainable development, adopted on Ashgabat's initiative on May 20 of this year. In commending this document, António Guterres emphasized its exceptional timeliness in the context of modern geopolitical realities and expressed sincere gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for its continued leadership in this process.
A separate substantive section of the talks included a detailed discussion of practical steps to establish, on Turkmenistan's initiative, the University of Peace and Neutrality under the auspices of the UN. The parties expressed shared confidence that the creation of such an international-level educational center will provide a powerful impetus for promoting the values of preventive diplomacy among young people and expanding global intercultural dialogue.
During the meeting, Rashid Meredov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's firm commitment to further advancing the President's constructive initiatives aimed at improving the international situation. In this context, the parties discussed in detail Ashgabat's strategic proposals, such as the development of a Global Security Strategy and the creation of a specialized Peace Mediation Chamber under the auspices of the UN.
The parties also expressed high praise for the long-standing and effective work of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, headquartered in Ashgabat, and reaffirmed their mutual desire to diversify joint efforts to successfully implement the Sustainable Development Goals in the region.
