Updated baggage rules of Turkish Airlines (THY), which previously applied only to domestic flights, will now also be in effect on international routes. This was announced by travel agencies of Turkmenistan.
As a reminder, starting April 7, 2026, a rule took effect on domestic flights that takes into account not only the weight of the baggage but also its dimensions. If the sum of the length, width, and height of a suitcase exceeds 158 centimeters, it is considered oversized and incurs an additional fee.
It has now been clarified that starting May 1, 2026, the same policy will begin to apply to international flights. In this case, the additional charge will be 90 US dollars per piece of baggage. For domestic flights, the extra fee is already 1,000 Turkish lira.
Thus, the new baggage dimension requirements are being phased in across all flight categories.
Travel agencies recommend passengers to check the size of their suitcases in advance to avoid unexpected expenses at the airport.
