A large-scale international festival of traditional wrestling styles took place in the capital of Afghanistan, during which official Kurash competitions were organized for the first time in the country’s history. This event marked an important milestone in the region’s sporting life and demonstrated Kabul’s readiness to host world-class athletes.

The tournament brought together 170 athletes from six countries, including Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The competitions were held across seven weight categories — from lightweight (60 kg) to heavyweight (over 100 kg). The high status of the event was underscored by the presence of top national officials, including Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and heads of sports authorities.

Following intense and highly competitive bouts, the team standings were as follows:
• Uzbekistan — clear first place;
• Tajikistan — silver medalist;
• Afghanistan — honorable third place as the host nation.

The festival was held as a result of agreements reached in September 2024 during the visit of International Kurash Association (IKA) President Haider Farman. The International Kurash Association views the tournament not only as a sporting event, but also as a symbol of regional solidarity and an important step toward Afghanistan’s integration into the global sports community.
